Cancer Research UK

At Cancer Research UK, we recognise the incredibly valuable contribution that young people can make to society and to realising our goal of seeing 3 in 4 people surviving cancer by 2034. We pledge to:

  • Offer young people a range of meaningful ways to get involved and to help beat cancer sooner
  • To build our relationships with relevant youth involving organisations to further promote the benefits of volunteering and youth social action (e.g. NUS, RAG, BBC Radio 1)
  • Celebrate and recognise young people who are involved in youth social action by sharing a range of volunteering case studies and stories
  • To ensure our award-winning internship scheme is flexible in allowing young people to fit volunteering around their study, work and social lives, enabling more young people to get involved

We pledged to the #iwill campaign on Share Your Pledge day 2016 – check here for an update in 6 months time!

Quote from Kirsti, a Race for Life volunteer.
“In the summer of 2014 my dad was suffering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, so I was experiencing first-hand the devastating effects of cancer. Before he died, he received life-prolonging treatment that was only possible because of research. That research gave me time with my dad that I might not otherwise have had. I started volunteering that summer and loved it from my first event – now I can never imagine giving it up! It’s impossible to explain the buzz you get from volunteering, but I guarantee if you sign up once you will want to do it over and over again.”
