British Youth Council

  • The British Youth Council pledge to support the #iwill campaign by championing its Youth-led principle, which we particularly welcome, and by sharing advice, experience and expertise around youth participation from its Youth Voice initiative, in the governance, design and development of the campaign.
  • We will offer to ensure it is meaningfully youth-led, is credible and not tokenistic, and stand ready to introduce experienced, diverse and representative young people from bodies such as the UK Youth Parliament, Local Youth Council Network, and Young Mayors Network, to the campaign’s Youth Board, or to assist in the recruitment of young people to sit on its decision making bodies, or as young ambassadors.
  • We will also offer ways to consult and research the views of young people to gauge their reaction to the campaign.
This year the British Youth Council has developed the UK Youth Parliament into one of the largest youth-led social action initiatives in the UK; reaching a record 969,992 young people in its largest social consultation in the UK, to reveal the five top social action campaigns its volunteers will purse in 2016. As part of our plans for next year we want to add 1000 new volunteer campaigners to our network and will be working with the #iwill campaign to achieve this and make a difference to both them and their communities.
Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
"The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK. We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life. Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?"
