Association for Citizenship Teaching

The Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT) promotes student led active citizenship that can include social action, as a necessary part of Citizenship education in schools and colleges. This involves work to:
• Establish teacher development networks and activities a designed to promote a pedagogy and curriculum for active citizenship
• Embed active citizenship in the ACT Quality Standard for Citizenship which schools and colleges can apply for, to demonstrate high quality Citizenship education in their institution and curriculum
• Support schools offering GCSE Citizenship Studies to develop effective and engaging approaches when addressing the qualification requirements for active citizenship
• Highlight the benefits and impact of effective active citizenship through our communications and journal ‘Teaching Citizenship’.

We’ve just pledged to the #iwill campaign recently – watch this space for updates on our progress

Quote from the CEO at Step Up To Serve
“The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK.
We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life.
With pledges helping to support the growth of youth social action, we want you to remember that it’s never too late to say #iwill. Will you be next?”
