General (Retd) Sir Nick Parker joined the Army in 1973. After early service in the Infantry he commanded a battalion of the Royal Green Jackets and a brigade in Germany which included some time in Bosnia.  He commanded the Army in Scotland with additional responsibility as the Governor of Edinburgh Castle.

As well as an appointment as the head of the Joint Staff College, his senior operational tour posts include: commanding the UK Joint Task Force and advising the President of Sierra Leone, Deputy Commanding General (UK) Multi-National Corps Iraq, the last active duty Army commander in Northern Ireland and the commander of UK forces in Afghanistan and Deputy Commander for the International Security Assistance Force.  His last appointment in the Army in the rank of full General was as Commander in Chief Land Forces, where his responsibilities included the MoD’s support to the civil authorities at home and leading the reaction to the security crisis at the London Olympics.

Since leaving the Army he has been working with McKinsey and the Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford on an initiative to improve Global Human Development.  He is a Director of The Military Mutual, advises Moloney Military Services and holds a number of charitable appointments including the President of the 200th Anniversary commemoration of the Peninsular War and is a member of the Board for the Invictus Games to be held in London in September 2014.
